Member Service Representative
Fulton County REMC is seeking a Member Service Representative to serve as a point of contact between the Cooperative and its members.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys helping others, works with care and accuracy, and thrives in a fast-paced office environment. You will support member accounts, billing, payments, service requests, and Cooperative programs while providing friendly, dependable service each day.
Objective
- Perform any assigned tasks, involving the installation, inspection, troubleshooting, testing, maintenance, repair and operation of an electric distribution system.
- Participate in on-the-job training and in any required course work or other educational opportunities in order to improve electric distribution and service line skills and knowledge with the objective of being a Journeyman Lineman.
Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for achieving the objectives and to fulfill all conditions, requirements and limitations set forth by the Rural Electric Apprenticeship Program (REAP) to professionally train electric linemen working for electric cooperatives throughout Indiana. REAP is a four-year program that requires apprentices to attend 612 hours of classroom instruction combined with at least 8,000 hours of on-the-job training.
- Assistance – Perform the preparatory, as well as the clean-up chores associated with various electric distribution projects, as assigned; to be responsible for keeping track of materials and tools, as appropriate; to run errands and perform other appropriate tasks, as necessary.
- Training and Development – Assist, with guidance from other line personnel, in the installation, inspection, troubleshooting, testing, maintenance, repair and operation of electric distribution facilities and equipment, in order to attain competence and improve knowledge; to participate in training opportunities in order to gain a working knowledge of the electric distribution systems and equipment.
- Technology – Responsible for learning the following skills, under guidance of a qualified employee:
- Basic blueprint reading, including schematics, symbols, specifications, material lists, staking sheets, sag charts and inventory.
- Basic math and measurements.
- Hand tools and portable power tools.
- Pole climbing.
- Pole types, classes and treatment.
- Hole digging, hauling and basic framing.
- Anchoring and guying.
- Distribution and service line hardware, apparatus and conductors.
- Geographic knowledge of electric distribution system areas, map and customer location numbers.
- Grounding of circuits, switch operations, as well as hold card placement and removal.
- Inspection of electric distribution and service lines and associated equipment.
- Electric distribution safety practices, safety equipment and first-aid skills; also, must pass bucket truck and pole top rescue tests.
- Operation of line trucks and other motorized equipment, posses a valid Indiana CDL driver’s license, to include compliance with D.O.T. regulations.
- Framing, rigging and grounding.
- Routine truck and rolling stock inspection and maintenance; and
- Be available for assigned stand-by hours and periodically perform work after normal work hours when called upon.
- Tools and Equipment – Responsible for proper utilization, maintenance and security of assigned tools, equipment and work areas.
- Recommendations – Make recommendations to the Manager of Operations, Line Foreman or Journeyman Lineman about any practices, procedures or requirements in order to facilitate maintenance schedules, short and long range plans, or any other efficiencies or cost improvements.
- Safety – Act in an exemplary manner in order to maintain and promote safe practices and procedures, and to participate in scheduled safety meetings and first-aid classes.
- Shall periodically be available for stand-by, and to perform work after normal hours when called upon.
- Any other duties that may be assigned.
Job Specifications
SCOPE
To perform any assigned tasks of a routine nature, involving the installation, inspection, troubleshooting, testing, maintenance, repair and operation of distribution and service line facilities and equipment.
To participate in on-the-job training and in any required course work or other educational opportunities in order to upgrade electric distribution line skills and knowledge and in order to enhance the possibilities for greater responsibility.
EDUCATION
High school diploma or its equivalent, to include successful course work in mathematics and science.
EXPERIENCE
A demonstrated potential, either through work experience or education, for success in electric distribution line occupations.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Mechanical and electrical aptitude: math and science, valid Indiana Commercial Driver’s License, (CDL) with air brake and trailer endorsements.

PHYSICAL
Pass the Cooperative’s physical qualifications as this job calls for stringent physical requirements in the interest of safety because the work demands a high degree of coordination, dexterity, endurance and strength.
Lifting 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

What You’ll Do
- Help members in person, by phone, and online with billing, service requests, and account questions
- Process payments and keep member account records accurate and up to date
- Set up new service, transfers, disconnections, deposits, and account changes
- Support billing services such as AutoPay, budget billing, SmartHub, and paperless billing
- Handle service orders, billing adjustments, capital credit questions, and related account services
- Maintain accurate information in NISC utility software systems, including CIS, SmartHub, and related applications
- Support general office tasks such as mail, documentation, and reporting
- Assist with outages, member events, and other Cooperative initiatives as needed

What We’re Looking For
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least 2 years of customer service, office, accounting, or similar experience
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams
- Ability to learn and use new software, including NISC utility systems
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling data and payments
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
Preferred
- Experience in a utility, electric cooperative, banking, or financial setting
- Cash handling and payment processing experience, including balancing daily transactions
- Experience with NISC systems and member engagement tools, including SmartHub or similar platforms

- Cross-train in a range of Member Services and administrative duties
- Serve as backup for team members during absences, busy periods, or emergencies
- Learn additional Cooperative systems and processes as needed
- Take on responsibilities outside your primary role when needed to support operations and member service
Work Environment
This office-based position involves regular computer and phone use. The role requires sitting, standing, and occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds. Overtime may be needed during billing cycles, outages, and special Cooperative events.
