Empowering the Next Generation Through Youth Programs

At FCREMC, we believe in investing in the future of our community and that future starts with our youth. With the help of Indiana Electric Cooperatives (IEC), we are proud to offer impactful youth programs that educate, inspire, and empower local students. Two of our most popular opportunities are Youth Tour and Camp Kilowatt, both designed to help students grow as leaders while learning more about electric cooperatives, and civic engagement.

Youth Tour is a once in a lifetime experience for high school juniors. Each summer, selected students from across Indiana travel to Washington, D.C., where they explore historic landmarks, visit national monuments, and learn firsthand how our government works. More importantly, Youth Tour allows students to connect with peers from across the state and nation while gaining a deeper understanding of leadership, public service, and the cooperative business model. Many past participants described Youth Tour as a transformational experience that helps shape their future goals.  We are excited to be selecting 2 students this year for this trip.

Another exciting opportunity we offer is Camp Kilowatt, a unique, action-packed camp experience for students entering seventh grade. Camp Kilowatt blends traditional summer camp fun with hands-on learning about energy, safety, and cooperation. Campers participate in activities such as swimming, ziplining, archery, and team-building exercises, all while discovering how electric cooperatives work and why they play such an important role in our communities.

We want to be sure families are aware of some important updates for Camp Kilowatt this year. The 2026 Camp Kilowatt dates are July 26–29, and the camp will be held at a new location Happy Hollow Camp, located just outside of Nashville, Indiana. This beautiful setting offers excellent facilities and outdoor spaces that will enhance the overall camp experience for our campers. While the location is new, the mission of Camp Kilowatt remains the same: to build confidence, friendships, and leadership skills in a fun and supportive environment.  We will be selecting 4 students to go on this fun 3-night adventure.

Both Youth Tour and Camp Kilowatt are offered at no cost to families, thanks to Fulton County REMC, Indiana Electric Cooperatives and other generous sponsors. We encourage parents, students, and educators to learn more about these programs and consider applying. By participating, students gain valuable life experiences while building skills that will serve them for years to come. At Fulton County REMC, powering our community means more than delivering electricity, it means empowering the next generation.
